Frequently Asked Questions About Metal Stamping Services

What is the minimum order quantity for custom metal stamping?
We have no strict MOQ. Prototype stampings can be produced using soft tooling or laser cutting for as few as 10-50 pieces. Production stamping with hard tooling is economical from 1,000-5,000 pieces and up. Our flexible approach accommodates all volumes.
How much do stamping dies cost?
Die costs depend on complexity, number of stations, and part size. Simple single-station blanking dies start from $800-2,000. Progressive dies with 3-8 stations range from $3,000-12,000. Complex multi-slide or transfer dies can cost $15,000-50,000. We provide die cost estimates during the DFM review.
What materials can you stamp?
We stamp a wide range of materials: cold-rolled steel (CRS), galvanized steel, stainless steel 304/316/430, aluminum 1100/3003/5052/6061, brass, copper, phosphor bronze, beryllium copper, and various pre-plated materials. Maximum material thickness depends on press capacity and part geometry.
What tolerances can you achieve in metal stamping?
Standard stamping tolerances are ±0.1-0.2mm for linear dimensions and ±0.05mm for hole positions. With precision tooling and secondary operations, we can achieve tolerances down to ±0.02mm on critical features. Flatness and burr height are controlled to customer specifications.
What is the typical lead time for stamping projects?
Prototype tooling: 2-3 weeks; production tooling: 4-6 weeks. First article samples are typically available 1-2 weeks after tooling completion. Production lead times range from 3-5 weeks depending on volume, material availability, and finishing requirements.
